My beloved in Christ, today we’ll go into “Prayer Points for Family.” The family is not just a social construct; it is a heavenly design, a sacred institution ordained by the Almighty God Himself. As it is beautifully written in the Good Book, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15).

The essence of these prayer points is to equip us with targeted prayers for our families. For we understand that the family is the training ground for life’s challenges and also a fortress against the arrows of the enemy. When the family is spiritually healthy, society is in harmony. But when the family is under siege, the ripple effect is catastrophic.

The God-Ordained Design of Family

From the dawn of creation, God established the family as the foundational unit of society. It began in the Garden of Eden, where God said, “It is not good for man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18).

Have you ever pondered why God refers to Himself as our Heavenly Father? It’s because the family is meant to be a mirror, a reflection of God’s very own nature and attributes. Just as the Trinity exists in perfect unity, so too should the family operate in unity and love.

The Bible is clear about the roles within the family. The man is to be the head, loving his wife as Christ loves the Church (Ephesians 5:25). The wife is to respect her husband (Ephesians 5:33), and the children are to obey their parents (Ephesians 6:1-3). Each role is not a mark of superiority or inferiority but an ordained function for the smooth running of the family unit.

The family is also a ground for spiritual mentorship. Parents are ordained to “train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6). Spiritual leadership should not be outsourced; it starts at home!

Also, families are God’s vehicle for generational blessings. Just as Abraham passed on a legacy of faith to Isaac, so are parents to pass on spiritual, moral, and even material legacies to their children.

Why We Must Pray for Our Families

It is written, “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and if there is a place that demands our ceaseless prayers, it is the family unit. Here are some crucial reasons why:

1. Spiritual Covering

Beloved, the family is often the first point of attack for the enemy. When we pray, we establish a hedge of fire around our family, much like Job who rose early to offer sacrifices for his children (Job 1:5). We must cover our families in prayer!

2. Unity and Love

Unity is the bedrock of a strong family. But let us not be ignorant; disunity is a tool the enemy uses to scatter blessings. When we pray, we invoke divine unity, just as Jesus prayed for unity among His followers in John 17:21-23.

3. Divine Provision and Protection

Jehovah Jireh is our Provider. When we lift our voices to Heaven, we open the windows of divine provision and protection over our families. “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

4. Guidance and Wisdom

Life is filled with decisions, choices that affect the family. We must pray for godly wisdom and guidance in marital choices, career paths, and even relationships. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5).

5. Healing and Deliverance

Is there any sick among you? Prayer moves the hand of God for miraculous healings and deliverances in our families. James 5:14-15 encourages us to pray and anoint the sick, and the prayer of faith shall save them.

Our families are like gardens; if we don’t tend to them, weeds will grow. But if we invest time in prayer points for family, ah, we will reap a harvest of blessings, joy, and divine favor.
