As stated earlier, the family is not just a tool to bring forth children. They are also task with the responsibility of training those children in the things of the Lord. Eli was a priest in the scripture. He dedicated his time and energy to his role as a priest that he failed in bringing up children that have the fear of God. As a result of this, his two sons Hophni and Phinehas became vagabonds in the house of the Lord. They were stealing from the temple, having sexual immortality with the females in the temple and desecrated the sacrifices offered to God.
Despite numerous reports coming to Eli, he still did nothing. And in the end, an inescapable doom was brought upon his home which left him and his two sons dead. When the family fails in its duties, children like Hophni and Phinehas are released into the society. The father has a role to play in bringing up Godly children, who don’t only know God but love and fear him.
They Provide Sense of Belonging, Mental Stability and Help in Dangerous Times
The family gives a child a sense of belonging. Like the body of Christ gives every believer a sense of identity, a family also gives every of its members a sense of belonging. Christians see one another as brothers and sisters in the body of Christ. We belong to the same tribe. A family also does that for its members. We don’t feel lonely because we belong to a family. And that family is our greatest strength. Oftentimes, we rely on our family for strength, financial support and mental stability. When we are going through a rough patch of life, family is always there to guide, nurture and help us out of every dangerous situation.
